Stacey Kent, eine der bekanntesten und mit 2 Millionen verkauften Alben und einer Grammy-Nominierung auch eine der erfolgreichsten Jazzsängerinnen, hat mit I Know I Dream ihr erstes Album mit großem Orchester aufgenommen.

Mit ihrem neuen Album ist Stacey Kent, der „Göttin des Bossa Nova“ (Le Figaro), eine Überraschung gelungen: I Know I Dream wurde in den berühmten Angel Studios in London mit rund 60-köpfigem Orchester aufgenommen – das erste Orchester-Album nach 20 Jahren Karriere und über 15 Alben. Sie plante schon lange ein solches Projekt, wollte aber den richtigen Zeitpunkt abwarten: „Ich bin sehr geduldig. Ich wusste, eines Tages muss ich es einfach machen – aber nicht um jeden Preis, und ich wollte mich nicht hetzen.“ Als Sony und OKeh ihr dann ein Album mit großem Orchester vorschlugen, spürte sie, dass die Zeit reif war: „Man bekommt nicht jeden Tag ein Projekt mit 58 Musikern angeboten!“

Die Songs wurden mit Liebe zum Detail von Tommy Lawrence und Staceys langjährigem Partner und Ehemann Jim Tomlinson produziert; in den Arrangements steht immer die Musik selbst im Vordergrund, nie der große Orchestersound an sich. Stacey Kent war dabei besonders wichtig, nie „die Empfindsamkeit und intime Verbundenheit zu verlieren“. Auf I Know I Dream präsentiert die Sängerin, über die Jamie Cullum sagt, sie setze „den Standard wie ein Song interpretiert sein sollte“, drei französische Songs aus ihrem geliebten Kernrepertoire – Juliette Grécos Les Amours perdues (im Original von Serge Gainsbourg), Nino Ferrers La Rua Madureira und Léo Ferrés Avec le temps – sowie vier neue Kompositionen und fünf Cover-Versionen brasilianischer Evergreens, darunter Antônio Carlos Jobims Photograph. I Know I Dream besticht mit majestätisch-einfühlsamen Klängen, rauschend und doch intim: ein Selbstporträt mit großem Orchester, ein geflüstertes Bekenntnis mit 58 Vertrauten. 

Das Album I Know I Dream erscheint am 3. November 2017 auf CD (88985462882), als Vinyl (2 LPs; 88985462901) und digital.

Stacey Kent is a jazz singer in the mould of the greatest, with a legion of fans worldwide, a host of honors and awards including a Grammy nomination, album sales approaching 2 million, Gold, Double-Gold and Platinum-selling albums that have reached a series of No. 1 chart positions during the span of her career. 

Kent's musical journey began in her childhood with piano lessons. An unusually keen ear and true voice lead her to participate in school musical productions, and throughout her time at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, she could often be heard singing at impromptu musical events in the college's cafe. However, nothing suggested the shift in career that has propelled her to international recognition. With a catalogue of 10 studio albums including the Platinum-selling, GRAMMY-nominated 'Breakfast On The Morning Tram' and an impressive list of collaborations, Stacey has graced the stages of more than 50 countries over the course of her career. Kent paid her dues in the jazz clubs of London, including the famed Ronnie Scott's Cub, where she still performs every year. 

Stacey cemented her reputation as a singer capable of putting a distinctive stamp on an impressive repertoire of standards and own compositions. Her ability to communicate emotion through a nuanced and minimalist approach was particularly showcased on Jim Tomlinson's album, 'The Lyric' which was awarded Album of The Year at the '2006 BBC Jazz Awards'. With each successive album, Stacey's style has become more honed as her artistic outlook has broadened. Stacey's search for songs had led her to look beyond the Great American Songbook, with French chanson or Brazilian music forming an ever-larger part of her repertoire. Since then, all of Stacey's albums have been punctuated by original songs composed by Tomlinson with a variety of lyricists in English, French and Portuguese. Stacey has continued to pursue a frenetic recording and touring schedule. She was invited to perform an all-French program at the Francofolies Festival and was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Following a recent successful concert series with the Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra, Stacey decided to release I Know I Dream, her first orchestral album. She continues to tour with sold-out concerts and festival appearances around the world.
